When a hand injury changed the way I could paint, I began working with my left hand, often using an index finger to press and drag paint across the canvas. That direct contact became part of a painting about another kind of endurance: caregiving.
The Memories and Time draws on the Three Graces, figures held in mutual support. Here, one begins to fade. The fading is not something to repair; it carries the painting’s central feeling, the work of staying present as someone recedes.
Made during the summer of 2026 in Cascais, the painting holds care as both a gesture and a changing relationship. Its surface records the hand adapting to its limits, while the figures find their own ways of holding one another.
