The Memories and Time is an original painting born from two simultaneous acts of endurance: a hand injury that forced me to paint with my non-dominant hand, and a lifelong meditation on caregiving in its final, most tender chapter.
The composition draws on the ancient motif of the Three Graces — three figures in mutual support — but one figure fades. That fading is not a flaw. It is the painting. It is what caregiving is: staying present with someone as they recede, and finding that the relationship doesn't end — it just changes shape.
A significant portion of this work was made with my fingers — the index finger of my left hand pressing and dragging paint directly onto the canvas. The texture carries that directness. Skin against canvas instead of bristle against canvas.
