A house inside a window. A window into what a house can hold.
The small ochre building stands within a larger arch of yellow light. Deep blue and black gather around it, crossed by white marks and the geometry of a railing. Familiar enough to recognize, the house has become strange enough to look at again.
I reconstructed a Midwestern house rather than painting it as a straightforward view. Held inside the arch, it becomes both a place and an image of a place: something we might enter, remember, or carry into another room. The surrounding darkness does not explain what happened there. It leaves the lit shape to hold our attention, and lets the idea of home remain a little unfinished.
