They came from different paintings. Here, they share the afternoon.
A standing figure anchors a gathering of seated and reclining bodies beneath long, curving stems. Blue figures stretch across the foreground; purple hills and turquoise sky leave room beyond them. The composition holds together without asking everyone to strike the same pose.
After studying Cézanne’s life, biographies, and paintings, I brought characters from his works into this reconstructed collage. Oil pastels became part of the exchange, helping separate encounters find a shared setting. It is a conversation with an artist’s world, but not an attempt to leave that world untouched. The borrowed figures have new neighbors now, and a different arrangement of attention.
