Fall collection — 18 x 18 in — Oak Park studio

Chicago’s fall does not arrive quietly. Leaves change color, shapes accumulate on the ground, and the garden begins offering a different set of materials. I collected flowers and leaves, attending to the variety that becomes visible when the season starts letting go.

Using a gel plate, I made printed papers and then transferred them to the main canvas. The work moves between those separate impressions and their larger arrangement: blue bursts, pale greens, lavender, warm peach, and dark curling lines that give the surface its rhythm.

This is part of the Fall collection. Rather than reproduce one view of Chicago, the painting gathers pieces of the season into a new pattern. The leaves do not have to remain where I found them to keep something of their character.
